Although my previous entry on the rebuttal of religion is slightly too strong for anyone to digest or accept, I would like to further clarify the issue of religion's danger upon certain human behaviours including specific practices, rituals or actions.
I am not against the idea of Christians believing in a God. I am against the practice of certain rituals that not only tarnish the name of the religion, but are also beyond reason or rationality. Just like humans cannot live without reasons, humans cannot live without the need to be rational as well. God gives Man free will to choose and to make decisions in life. And so, in secular term, we all deserve the right to make choices, to vote and to decide the path we take. Thus, the idea of infant dedication or baptism is what I am against.
Infants are born to this world without a single knowledge of their environment. They are what we call the
tabula rasa, or blank slate. They are psychologically innocent and are fully dependent on their parents' care and attachment towards them. In addition, infants are very much vulnerable to their environment and thus, it will be unfair to take away their freedom to make decisions by getting them baptised at such a very young age. Infants have to be taken care of by their parents until they arrive at an age when they are able to have basic discernment and moral values, before deciding for themselves to be baptised. Children ought to have their rights to choose what they want to believe in, not just to be told to believe because they are being brought up to believe.
Behind the facade and taboo of religion, lies a core reason of its undying existence. The existence of certain faith in the supernatural, has a very close connection with the psychological aspect of human nature. I have not seen this coming but I can testify that I have finally discovered such a phenomenon. One of the ultimate rationales behind the existence of a belief system or any organised system of common interests is relative to an individual's desire to be accepted.
Groups are formed based on common grounds, common goals, common visions and common interests. There can never be a successfully organised group without any common purpose in it. Thus, birds of the same feather flock together. Our social mind has a common tendency of conformity based upon how we are viewed by our peers. As a result, we make decisions in order to be accepted within social norms or community. That is one of the reasons why an entire household can be saved when one believes in Christ Jesus. We humans not only want to be accepted by God, but also long for acceptance from other people. That's why we desire love, passion, affection and care. That's why we tend to make good decisions or evil decisions all for the sake of being loved and accepted.
Another rationale behind the existence of a so-called "religion", is neither love, nor faith. It is the knowledge of assurance.
Assurance derives from a Protestant Christian doctrine, which states that the inner witness of the Holy Spirit allows the justified disciple to know that they are saved. In another words, it is a one-way psychological communication towards oneself that there is inner peace within that individual. It can be assurance of salvation, assurance of peace or assurance of safety and so on. All we need in life as human beings is the need to be assured, not by facts, but by how we communicate to ourselves. Ultimately, the things we say to ourselves matter. And they can make or break us, just by how we look at ourselves.
There is no need to be Holy Spirit conscious, there is no need to be sin conscious, and there is not a need to be devil conscious. Any consciousness regarding the supernatural is only the state of our minds, which has the tendency to drive one insane. What really matters is, the state of our well-being. Being assured gives birth to love, faith, hope and trust. Without assurance, there can be no happiness.
Faith is non-thinking. That much is true. But being in religion doesn't only requires faith. It doesn't really require action, for action can be carried out without the need to be salvaged from sin or unrighteousness. In addition, faith is blind because it is pure belief and not knowing, not questioning and not doubting. It is the extreme opposite of fear. Faith alone cannot create miracles. Neither can action together with faith. The ONLY gateway for miracles to take place is the existence of assurance. This is the only Mother Element in this whole wide picture of belief system that many fail to grasp.
Assurance speaks louder than faith. It is the ultimate knowledge of one's well-being in a belief system or social mentality.
Religion is unnecessary. It is hypocritical, dangerous and anti-social. It basically takes away the sole purpose of living. However, behind the rituals, practices, culture and belief system, is the essence of assurance, which is why religion is still here to stay. People do not need religion, they need relationships (be it visible or invisible) and assurance.
