Have you ever heard of people saying that Singaporeans are really conscious of what they put in their mouths?
The fact is, these sayings are bullshit. Maybe not at all, but somehow it has some truth in it. The truth is, many of them are conscious of nothing except the price of the food and how long it takes to reach their stomach.
I was out with my girlfriend this evening for dinner at a hawker centre in Bedok, where we feed our pathetically famished stomachs. There, I chanced upon a Western Food store, which looked pretty good - 'cos the food looked good at first sight.
What really shocked me later was when I ordered a Chicken Chop for myself. The chicken was slightly overcooked at certain portions, as there were lots of black stuffs sticking out of many areas of the chicken thigh. This store is definitely going to be boycotted by me and I swear never to eat from this acursed store ever again. I had a hard time removing those black overcooked parts as eating them heightens the risk of contracting cancer.
Alright, here's the gist of what's about to come. Fastern your seat belts people! Here goes...
After we finished our dinner, the store vendals came over to clear up the table we were seated at. It was a middle-aged lady, or should I say
Ah Soh - a local term used to describe a middle-aged lady who's loud. As she was cleaning my side of the table, she saw those black pieces of leftovers on the table and sort of made some comments about me wasting food. *raises eyebrows* I mean, seriously, who would wanna eat those black stuffs?
So, this was what I told her. "There're lots of black stuffs on the chicken. You can't eat those. It's bad for your health."
And she was like, "Huh?" or sorta like giving me that DUH expression on her face.
So I repeated myself, "You can't eat them. They're not healthy."
She still did not get the whole idea until my girlfriend started to tell her that those black stuffs could cause cancer.
And you know what? She was like... "Oh really? Okie.." And then walked off.
She didn't even have a clue of what goes into her damn mouth!
That's really sad.. You know, each one of you Singaporean needs to get educated in the area of nutrition, not just sex alone for Christ's sake! We need to love our own body and life man.. it's the only one gift God ever gave to us.
I learned my lesson. In fact, I was like many of those Singpaporeans who are ignorant about what goes into their mouths. It was until I was robbed by a physical health knock-out, before I finally realised that it's very important to know what we are putting into our body system.
Haiz.. why can't some people ever get to learn to love themselves deeper? Sad world this is...
